State Approved Courses
What’s on this page?
The COPS Training Portal recognizes the importance of receiving in-service credit for training, and has worked to establish partnerships with state-level organizations and standards and training boards (POSTs) to ensure continuing professional education credits can be obtained by law enforcement officers successfully completing Portal courses. Recognizing that every state is unique in its legal/training requirements, internal resources, and reporting requirements and responsibilities, the Portal works individually with each entity to determine the best methods for meeting those needs. These services are provided at no cost to state organizations, local constituent agencies, or individual officers participating in Portal training programs.
How do I use this page?
In the table of Portal training courses shown below, you will find information on those states in which course approvals and partnerships exist between the Portal and the state POST organization. Refresh the page if the table is not being displayed.
You can filter your search by selecting a State and/or Course in the dropdown lists below. The table displays details you may need to know regarding applicable credits, course codes, completion reporting, etc. The table does not include information on agency-level course approvals which may be in place within your state.
What if a course approval status is “Not Required” for my state?
In the table below, you may find that approvals are “Not Required”, meaning that your state POST organization does not issue approvals for third party training vendors. In these instances, individual Portal courses still may be approved at the agency level within your sate. Please inquire about this with your agency’s training command, and please contact us if we can provide assistance with this process, including providing training reporting or administrator access.
What if a course approval status is “Not Approved” for my state?
In the table below, you may find that courses are listed as “Not Approved”. This may mean several things:
- Your state POST organization may have reviewed and decided NOT to approve certain courses. In these instances, individual Portal courses still may be approved at the agency level within your state, depending on the legal requirements of your state POST. Please inquire about this with your agency’s training command, and please contact us if we can provide assistance with this process.
- The COPS Training Portal and your state POST may not yet have initiated discussions about course approvals.
- There may be a formal agreement pending between your state POST organization and the COPS Training Portal for course approvals, but decisions have not been finalized. Please contact us if you have questions about your state POST organization and specific course approvals.
